Looking geeky can be stylish. After all, if we’re to boast of being so fond of preppiness, shouldn’t we at least acknowledge the fact that the guys who set the style were often brilliant book-smart guys who just had a knack for looking gentlemanly? Here’s a seriously good looking outfit with some tongue-in-cheek nerdy flair.
Classic. But contemporary. This is an ever-so-slightly new spin on an old look. You start with a madras shirt by Gant, the company that was king of the button down during the Ivy League Look’s golden era. You tuck it in to some APC New Standards to modernize the jeans with a sleek cut but retain that traditional feel with a classic indigo wash. The Bass Weejuns are standard ops — and perfect with that new slimmed down, elongated toe box. Throw on Ralph Lauren’s braided belt for the classic look (that brown will vibe well with your Weejuns). And then, put on some Wigwam socks: just make sure they show. They’re slightly humorous, but trust us, this was the look back then. Feel free to expose the selvage of your jeans by cuffing them once over — this way your socks are sure to show a bit. And while you’re at it, why not throw in a pocket protector?
