Armani

So far, the bow ties that we have ┬áposted have been for the day-to-day, but there is a time we have been neglecting. The bow tie has a serious home in the world of Black Tie. When one prepares to throw on his tux, he should know that this is when he’ll be looking his finest, so every choice is important. Sure, there are times for a simple black bow tie — with a slim shawl collar tux, for instance. But more and more we’ve been leaning to something a little more fun to go with our formalwear. In steps a bigger velvet or velour bow tie that will knock your simple-minded friends into yesteryear. Maybe we’ve been drinking a little too much from Tom Ford’s glass, but when it comes time to make your sartorial statement, reach for something that will wow them. We’ve given you a great piece by Armani Collezioni that will give you the exact look you’re going for. Sure, it may be pre-tied, but if you’re not a seasoned vet in the bow tie business, it’ll be tough to get that perfect knot you need on the big occasions.

Tom Ford

If you’re ballsy enough, you can even try something like this with one of your normal suits. Here’s some inspiration via Tom Ford (above). You can get the Armani Collezioni Bow Tie for $140 at Neiman Marcus, but if you know what you’re doing, go into Tom Ford and get a big self-tie number.

Corduroy Jacket

Back in the 60’s, the corduroy jacket was a staple of the Ivy League wardrobe. Every guy had one or two hanging up ready to throw on. Somewhere along the line, guys forgot about how easy and stylish the corduroy jacket was. It straddles the line between a sport coat and outerwear. It can go with so much without looking too dressy, which makes it a perfect choice for college guys that want to step it up, but don’t want to look over-dressed. Better yet, they won’t break the bank. They won’t cost you as much as most sport coats, but you’ll be able to get more wear out of it than you could ever imagine. Pair it with an oxford shirt, a plaid shirt, a t-shirt, a sweater, just about anything really and you’ll look like a classy prepster. So be smart and pick up one like this by Our Legacy. Perfect color and fit, and the elbow patches really take it to a whole new level. You can get it for $353 at Tres Bien.

There are few people who have inspired the way men dress like Steve McQueen. When people say that you should look like you didn’t try too hard, they really mean that you should look like Steve McQueen.

“Yeah, those Common Project folk!”

“I’d sure like to get my hands on some of those sneakers, it’s a shame they don’t come any cheaper than $300”

Well, today you are in luck, my friend. Common Projects will be dropping in at Gilt at 12pm, sharp. Expect his to be an absurdly popular sale so come in with a game plan. L.B.M 1911 Fall '09

L.B.M 1911 Fall '09

Luigi Bianchi Mantova has a little brother brand of its own named L.B.M 1911. As expected, they have trendier items with modern cuts–and modern (cheaper) prices. This is the kind of stuff you’d see a stylish college student in Milan wearing out at night. The Fall ’09 collection mixes patterns and textures beautifully, which is key once the temperature drops and colors become more monotone. The gorgeous collection comes with an equally amazing lookbook that is right up there with the ones by Band of Outsiders and 3Sixteen. We’ll keep you posted on when and where you’ll be able to pick up these gorgeous pieces.

Wool Hacking Jacket

Wool Hacking Jacket

When we saw the Polo Vintage Collection ad in the September edition of GQ, we nearly shat our pants. We went around the web looking for what in the hell it was, but came up with nothing. Finally this morning we had our answers. The tailored goods in the Polo Ralph Lauren collection for the Fall ’09 campaign have taken their inspiration from a time when elegance was everything in dress. While everyone is hopped up on the Mad Men style of the late 50’s, Ralph Lauren has looked back a decade or two and gone for a wide lapel look that defined the 30s and 40s. We’re really happy to see someone doing something that doesn’t look like Thom Browne and welcome this collection. Our favorite piece has to be the Charcoal Wool Hacking Jacket by Black Label, which technically isn’t part of the Polo Vintage Collection, but c’mon it looks pretty damn similar. You can pick it up for $1,550 here.
