A fisherman’s sweater is a sweater with heavy knitting that was originally warn by Irish Fisherman. They wore these chunky sweaters so that if they were lost at sea people would be able to recognize them as each village had a different knit. Don’t confuse this with a cable-knit sweater as these have a larger knit and are usually done in heavyweight wool.
